Catch “March Madness” in Florida this weekend as opening rounds of the 2008 NCAA Division I men’s basketball tournament are hosted at the University of South Florida’s St. Pete Times Forum in Tampa. Name: DISASTER!

Formerly named ‘Earthquake’, DISASTER! puts you in the middle of a thrilling disaster movie. The major elements of ‘Earthquake’ are still there: the flood, the fires and the collapsing city streets. What’s new is that you get to star in the action in a “real” movie directed by Frank Kinkaid, a seat-of-his-pants director of B-grade disaster-themed schlock films.
Christopher Walken stars as Kinkaid and interacts with the audience via a new technology called Musion through which a projection of Mr. Walken appears to be right there in front of you – in 3-D! After a “crash course” in the secrets of disaster moviemaking, you head to a soundstage where select audience members are filmed in various action shots. Then it’s time to board the subway, where you are given cues to react as if you are in a real disaster movie.
As the subway returns to the station, you get to see the final cut of the movie trailer starring select audience members (maybe even YOU) and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. This thrilling “movie ride” lasts about 20 minutes and makes you truly feel that you are a movie star.
DISASTER! is located in the San Francisco section at Universal Studios in Orlando.

Dueling Dragons at Islands of Adventure is the world’s first inverted, dueling roller coaster that sets you on a high-speed adventure as Fire and Ice race through the twists and turns. Both Fire and Ice reach heights of 125 feet and reach speeds of 55 to 60 miles per hour. As you ride this roller coaster you experience a zero-gravity roll, corkscrews, five inversions and 3 near misses with the other coaster.

If you can’t make it to New Orleans to experience the Mardi Gras festivities you can still take part at Universal Studios Orlando! Every Saturday night from February 2nd until April 19th Universal Studios hosts Mardi Gras in the streets with live music, a rock parade and lets not forget the beads!
The parade features 13 colorful and lively floats that move through the “French Quarter Courtyard” making you feel like you’re right in New Orleans. You’ll find entertainment for the whole family hundreds of costume characters, Cajun cuisine and live performances.

The younger ones will have plenty to do as well with rides like the Flying Unicorn, Pteradon Flyers (even the older ones like this one), the Caro-Suessel carousel and One Fish, Two Fish. One thing’s for sure…you will not have trouble fnding things to keep everyone in your group happy! It’s an all-day adventure that’s hard to top. Many rides have height and other requirements so be sure to check each ride’s rules so little ones won’t be disappointed when you arrive. Another more intimate venue is the House of Blues concert hall at Downtown Disney. Coming

This fall at Universal Sudios you will not want to miss Halloween Horror Nights! But beware…this one is definitely NOT for the younger set! This year, Universal Studios introduces the “Carnival of Carnage” as its Halloween theme, with 8 new bone-chilling haunted houses and 4 terrifying shows. Don’t turn your back, or you may come face-to-face with some of the most sinister movie madmen including Jason, Freddy Krueger and Leatherface! From September 28th until November 3rd find Halloween Horror Nights events and attractions at Universal Studios.

Another new attraction at Universal Studios, scheduled to open in 2008, will feature The Simpsons. Currently, The Simpsons characters are available for meet and greet at Universal while awaiting the construction of their new digs. 
Construction of the new Simpsons area is underway and will replace the old Back to the Future ride. Plans include thrill rides, live shows, and an area called “Krusty Land” that simulates an amusement park atmosphere. With the recent opening of the new Simpson’s movie, this new attraction is eagerly anticipated by Simpsons fans worldwide. Stay tuned for more updates on the Simpsons arrival at Universal Studios.

The Blue Man Group! But, what exactly is the Blue Man Group? It’s a theatrical group featuring actors painted blue and performing on stage with musical instruments, live action and comedy along with an incredible light show. 
It’s often described as an extraordinary mix of sight, sound and sensation that has to be experienced at least once. With performances nightly, the actors bring a brand of excitement and fun that you can only find at Universal Studios. The shows are sure to rev up the fun-factor of any vacation with astounding antics that you have to see to believe. But be prepared …you might find yourself in the act as well. Tickets are sold separately or can be purchased as a package with your theme park admission.

If you are visiting the Orlando, Florida area in the month of February you’ll be in for a real treat! Universal CityWalk is opening NASCAR Sports Grille which will include Dale Earnhardt Sr.’s & Jr.’s cars on display. The grand opening day is February 14th, however on February 12th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. there will be celebrity appearances & autograph sessions with JJ Yeley and Bobby Labonte.
